The Sweet Flower Farm Story
A little history
The Sweet Family Farm was first established in the 1840s by the Sweet family. The Sweets were English and one of the earliest families of Copake. The house is a simple and classic Greek Revival farmhouse with decorative molding and an unusual asymmetrical front entryway. The original barn from the late 1800s has been converted into living space now, but the large 1920s dairy barn is still our working structure. Old stone walls line our fields and meander through the woods, connecting our pastures to those of the other original Sweet properties down the road that long ago comprised one large 240-acre farm of multi-generational Sweet homes in the 19th century.
JUMP TO THE PRESENT…
We purchased the farm in early 2023, charmed by its historical integrity, bucolic topography, abundant plant life and water features.
Sweet Flower Farm sits within an ecologically and culturally rich transition zone bracketed by the Taconics to the east and the Hudson River to the west.
This vibrant liminal space is a biophysical rarity, a place where plants, people, and wildlife meet to share in the especially hospitable environment. The farm is just to the north of the Roeliff Jansen Kill, the traditional boundary between the Mohican and Wappinger tribes, sitting atop a rare seam of limestone, the source of its unique soil chemistry.
It occupies a south-facing hillside, where it basks in abundant warm sunlight and drinks deeply from the clean, mineral-rich groundwater. This land offers the ingredients of life in fertile abundance, a fact we seek to honor in everything we do.
It is a privilege and a joy to live and farm on this potent beautiful land.

Each season brings us new joys and wonders. We welcome you to come experience and participate in the magic of this land and all that grows upon it
